This shade evokes nature. It's a shade that's evocative of plant-based shades. Versatile and timeless, olive green is known for its warm yet modern feel.
To help you choose your colors, we offer a series of tips for using olive green in the rooms of your home and for combining complementary colors with olive green.
A decidedly warm color
It is a shade that is very identifiable, particularly in the south of France; its color can be likened to the leaves of the olive tree.
Green subtly tinged with brown, this charming green can also be distilled with a touch of gray or yellow.
Stability and tranquility are the emotions conveyed by the fairly dark olive green color. Its familiarity with nature gives a feeling of comfort and security.
An ideal shade for living spaces, olive green is prized for its earthy hue which legitimizes the feeling of warmth.
Within the green range, there are several pastel or bright shades that are difficult to combine. Olive green is neutral and can therefore be applied very easily with other colors from the color chart. You will see this later in this article, but olive green is compatible with a wide range of colors: beiges, browns, or even off-whites, allowing you to create varied atmospheres.
Our technical advice for applying olive green
Which olive green finish should I choose?
The choice of the finish in which you are going to apply the olive green can be applied in different finishes: matt satin or velvet which are the main finishes offered by paint manufacturers the algo Paint range offers its different paint finishes to best support you in the choice of the finish to apply olive glass in your interior here are the different advantages definitions that we offer.
The matte finish is what we recommend if your wall has defects or roughness.
In fact, the matte finish will aim to hide the imperfections of a support.
The other two finishes we offer, namely satin and velvet, are particularly recommended for application to walls in a standard room.
Velvet is perfect because it is just between matt and satin. It retains its washable character while limiting the often-criticized silky appearance of the satin look. Conversely, satin is particularly recommended in damp rooms such as kitchens or bathrooms where a resistant paint will be necessary for maintenance and washing.
In which room should olive green be applied?
As seen previously, olive glass is a shade that is easily combined and applicable in the vast majority of rooms in the house due to its sophisticated and warm character.
In a living room, for example, olive glass is very popular for creating a warm and elegant atmosphere. In a bedroom, olive green will promote relaxation and rest. It is best to use olive green in combination with other colors from the color chart to achieve a harmonious ensemble and not too visually overload depending on the size of the room. Finally, in the kitchen and bathroom, olive green will bring a natural and refreshing touch to the kitchen and this will give an authentic look that may please your guests.
Also apply it in an office for more color and character.
What shades go with olive green?
Olive glass can be combined very easily with a multitude of colors. To accompany this shade it is often recommended not to exceed 3 colors per room and that is good because Olive glass is a fairly bright color it is recommended to be applied only on one section of wall so as not to visually saturate the space.
First of all, olive green can be used with neutral and timeless colors to soften the lively character of this shade, particularly with white, beige or very pale grays.
Think about it, you can also completely combine colors and materials and textures, for example, give a wood effect in a living room or in a bedroom or simply bring an industrial look with metallic elements. As for textiles in a living room, for example, linen fabrics can perfectly suit the atmosphere given by olive glass.
As mentioned previously, olive glass is a shade that is significantly reminiscent of nature, so it is entirely possible to combine the olive lock with some plants in your interior decoration to create a full natural atmosphere.
What tools should I use to apply olive green?
As with white paint for all the other shades of our sawn outfit, applying olive green is very simple and very conventional; you can apply it with a brush, roller or spray gun.
When applying with a brush, we only recommend it for small surfaces because the brush simply allows for a more precise application of the paint. Note that it is also very valuable to apply with a brush on the corners or edges so as not to go over the edges.
Roller application is the simplest and most widely used in specialized painting work for large surfaces. This allows you to quickly apply the paint. Remember to use a size 9 roller when applying and not to apply too thickly.
It is possible to apply with a spray gun, however this will not necessarily be the most recommended method of application for olive green paint, simply because this shade is often used on a section of wall or small spaces, which will not necessarily be viable with a spray gun. However, the spray gun guarantees a very rapid, even application, but with a significant loss of performance.
Some more information
Whatever the choice of color, it is necessary to choose a bio-sourced paint which will contain as few VOCs (volatile organic compounds) as possible.
Applying an undercoat is highly recommended and make sure you use two top coats of the finish paint.
If the price is a fundamental criterion, keep in mind that the covering power is a factor to take into consideration: with a liter of Algo paint for example, you can paint up to 12m²/L - otherwise, some paints will have a lower yield and therefore a more expensive yield per liter.
